About FURGENCE
FURGENCE is a small independent fursuit studio based in Xiamen, China.
We focus on fursuit making and original character design. Through structure, materials, fabric, and handcraft, we hope to bring two-dimensional characters into the real world as wearable, touchable, and expressive creations.
To us, a fursuit is not only a costume. It is also a physical expression of a character’s personality and presence.
We aim to create works that feel alive, while also considering comfort, structural stability, and long-term wearability.
Our Story
FURGENCE began with Kerin’s love for furry culture, handcraft, and character expression.
Since her student years, Kerin had dreamed of making a fursuit of her own. What started as a personal interest gradually became something she wanted to pursue more seriously. She began studying the work of skilled fursuit makers from both China and overseas, learning from different styles, construction methods, materials, and finishing techniques.
In the early stage, Kerin explored the craft through self-learning and small commissions. Each project became part of the process: understanding how a character could be translated from a drawing into a physical form, how structure affects expression, and how comfort matters just as much as appearance.
After 2022, Kerin had to pause fursuit making due to health reasons. This break did not end her interest in the craft. Instead, it gave her time to reconsider what kind of work she wanted to create, and how to continue in a more stable and sustainable way.
In 2024, Crane met Kerin through their shared interests. Crane graduated from an art academy and previously worked in a design company. With a background in visual design and a similar love for handcraft, character design, and making things by hand, Crane joined Kerin in rebuilding FURGENCE as a small two-person studio in Xiamen.
Today, FURGENCE is run by both of us.
Every project is handled directly by the makers, from design interpretation and structure planning to material selection, production, and final adjustments.
We want to keep the direct communication and hands-on warmth of a small studio, while continuing to improve our workflow, quality, and visual language.
Our Approach
Our goal is to make characters feel vivid, expressive, and comfortable to wear.
We do not see fursuit making as simply copying a reference sheet into fabric. Every character has their own personality, proportions, and visual rhythm. During production, we may make reasonable adjustments based on the character’s features and the limitations of real-world construction, so the final result can look balanced, wearable, and complete.
We also try to apply new materials and technologies where they are useful. For example, we use 3D modeling and 3D printing to assist with head base construction, and we may use digital patterning methods to support body shaping and sizing. These tools do not replace handcraft. Instead, they help us make the structure more stable, the communication clearer, and the production process more controlled.
We care about:
- Character personality and expression
- Comfort during wear
- Structural stability
- Clean construction and handmade details
- Balance between design and real fabrication
- Reasonable use of new materials and technology

Looking Forward
FURGENCE is still a young studio, and we know there is always more to learn.
We will continue to approach every project with care, patience, and enthusiasm. While improving our skills and workflow, we also hope to keep exploring new materials, new techniques, and the creative directions we truly want to try.
